Perfect if you want a smooth, balanced Panama Arabica with the depth of a historic estate — ideal for espresso lovers and anyone stocking up with serious provenance.

One of Panama's Oldest Coffee Estates

Finca Lérida was founded in the 1920s when Norwegian engineer Tollef Bache Mönniche retired to Boquete and planted his first coffee trees on a property named after the city of Lérida in Spain. He even invented the Sifón, a device for separating ripe and unripe cherries still used on coffee farms worldwide. Today the estate is run by the Chiari family — a woman-owned business managing five farms across altitudes from 1,300 to 2,000 meters in the Alto Quiel and Jaramillo areas of Boquete. The farm sits within a protected cloud forest reserve bordering La Amistad National Park, where coffee cultivation and rainforest conservation go hand in hand.

About the Catuai Varietal

Catuai is a hybrid Arabica varietal — a cross between Mundo Novo and Caturra — known for its balanced cup, consistent quality, and adaptability to high-altitude growing conditions. The washed process removes the fruit entirely before sun-drying on patios, producing a clean, bright cup that highlights the bean's natural character.

Flavor Profile

Rich and layered: bittersweet and white chocolate up front, roasted almond and nuts in the mid-palate, with bright notes of cherry and passion fruit on the finish. Medium balanced body with syrupy smoothness — a natural fit for espresso, but performs beautifully as drip, French press, or pour-over.
