Hacienda La Esmeralda Geisha Gift Box — Natural + Washed | 2 x 100g, Boquete, Panama
The Hacienda La Esmeralda Geisha Gift Box is the single most extraordinary thing I can put in your cup: two 100g lots of the world's most celebrated and expensive coffee — one natural process, one washed — from the Panamanian estate that started the entire Geisha revolution. In August 2025, an Esmeralda washed Geisha broke the world auction record at $30,204 per kilogram. This is your chance to taste why. Made to order in Panama and delivered worldwide in 5 days.

- Free worldwide shipping — and this order clears the $70 free-shipping threshold with ease
The Estate That Put Geisha on the Map
Hacienda La Esmeralda sits on the volcanic slopes of Volcan Baru, in the Boquete highlands of Chiriqui, Panama. The Peterson family acquired it in 1996 — at first almost as a dairy farm, with coffee as an afterthought. Then they noticed one section of trees thriving where others struggled in a wet, disease-prone season. They isolated those plants, propagated them, and discovered the variety was Geisha. When they entered a separate Geisha lot in the 2004 Best of Panama competition, it stunned the judges and the world — and modern specialty coffee was never the same.
Two decades later, Esmeralda is still the name every other Geisha is measured against. At the 2025 Best of Panama, the estate swept first place in all three categories, and its washed Geisha sold at auction for $30,204 per kilogram — more than three times the previous record — scoring 98 points and bought by a roaster in Dubai. The Geisha in this box is grown above 1,500 meters in the celebrated Jaramillo and Canas Verdes sections, the same terroir behind those records.
Natural vs Washed: Two Sides of a Legend
What makes this gift box so special is the side-by-side tasting. The same variety, the same estate, the same altitude — but two completely different processing methods that pull the bean in two directions.
Washed Geisha (100g) is Geisha at its most crystalline and pure. The cherries are pulped and the coffee is fermented and washed before drying, stripping away everything but the bean's true character. Expect a luminous, tea-like cup: jasmine, orange blossom, bergamot and bright lemon-citrus, with a clean, elegant, silky finish. This is the profile that broke the auction record.
Natural Geisha (100g) is dried whole inside the fruit, so the cherry's sugars soak into the bean. The result is bolder and more exuberant — the same floral backbone, now wrapped in ripe tropical fruit like peach, mango and papaya, with a jammy, wine-like sweetness and a fuller, syrupy body. Fragrant, opulent, unforgettable.
Brew them one after the other and you will understand, in a single sitting, why Panama Geisha rewrote the rules of what coffee can be.

How to Brew Your Esmeralda Geisha
A coffee like this deserves care. Grind fresh immediately before brewing, use filtered water at 200°F (93°C), and brew it black — no milk, no sugar. Pour-over is the ideal method to showcase Geisha's floral, tea-like clarity.
- Pour-Over (V60 / Chemex / Kalita Wave) — medium-fine grind | 1:16 ratio | 3–4 min. The best way to taste the jasmine and citrus.
- AeroPress — medium-fine grind | 1:15 ratio | 2–3 min. Clean and concentrated.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Hacienda La Esmeralda coffee so expensive?
Esmeralda pioneered Panama Geisha and has set repeated world auction records — most recently $30,204 per kilogram at the 2025 Best of Panama. Tiny harvests, an exceptional variety, and world-class terroir make it the most sought-after coffee on earth.
What is the difference between the natural and washed Geisha in this box?
Washed is cleaner and more floral — jasmine, bergamot, citrus, tea-like. Natural is bolder and fruit-forward — peach, mango, papaya, jammy and wine-like. Same bean, two very different experiences.
How much coffee is in the gift box?
200g total: one 100g bag of natural-process Geisha and one 100g bag of washed-process Geisha, both whole bean.
How should I brew it?
Pour-over (V60, Chemex, Kalita) or AeroPress with a medium-fine grind, brewed black to taste the floral character. Grind fresh before each brew.
How long does delivery take?
Made to order in Panama and delivered worldwide in 5 days via FedEx or DHL. Free shipping on orders over $70.
