In 2004, Hacienda La Esmeralda entered its first separated Geisha lot in the Best of Panama competition, stunned the judges (one famously said he "saw God in a cup"), and shattered the world auction record. Two decades later, at the 2025 Best of Panama auction, a Hacienda La Esmeralda washed Geisha scored 98 points and sold for $30,204 per kilogram — the highest price ever paid for coffee, anywhere.
Esmeralda is not alone at the top. Lamastus Family Estates (Elida) is the most decorated producer in Best of Panama history with eight titles, including the 2026 Washed Geisha championship, and Elida's Geisha earned a near-perfect 98 points on CoffeeReview.com — the first time that score was ever awarded. Across the board, Panama Geishas consistently score above 90 points with the world's most demanding tasters.
