The Janson Story
The Janson story begins in 1941, when Swedish immigrant Carl Axel Janson arrived in the highlands of Volcán, Panama and fell in love with the land on the slopes of the Tisingal and Barú volcanoes. What started as a cattle farm eventually became one of the most respected coffee operations in the world. In 1990, Carl's sons — Michael, Carl, Ricardo, and Peter — officially established Janson Coffee, inspired by their father's lifelong dedication to quality. Their lots are consistent Best of Panama placers, including a 5th place finish at Best of Panama 2023.
Where the Geisha Grows
Grown at 1,600–1,700 m.a.s.l. on the Los Alpes farm — named after the Swiss Alps in honor of the family's Swedish heritage. The Geisha beans develop exceptional complexity in the cool mountain air, rich volcanic soil, and natural mist of the Talamanca Mountain Range, adjacent to the UNESCO World Heritage La Amistad International Park.
The Natural Process Explained
After harvesting, the whole coffee cherry — skin, pulp, and all — is sun-dried with the bean still inside (unlike washed processing, which strips the fruit before drying). The sugars and acids from the fruit ferment slowly around the bean, producing a coffee with intense fruit-forward character, heavier body, and a wine-like complexity unlike anything else in the cup.
Grown With Nature, Not Against It
Janson uses no pesticides or herbicides — instead maintaining soil health through enzyme microorganisms and preserving endemic flora as natural barriers around the farm. Only hand-selected, perfectly ripe cherries are processed, and the entire operation runs on solar energy.
Flavor Profile
All the luminous, floral elegance of Geisha — jasmine, stone fruit, and bright citrus — now amplified by ripe berries, tropical fruit, jammy sweetness, and a wine-like finish. The most expressive cup for those who want Janson Geisha at its boldest and fruitiest.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is natural-processed coffee?
In natural processing, the whole coffee cherry is sun-dried with the fruit still on the bean. The sugars ferment slowly around the bean, producing intense fruit-forward flavors, heavier body, and a wine-like complexity.
How does it compare to Janson's washed Geisha?
The washed is brighter, cleaner, and more floral. The natural is bolder — fruit-forward, jammy, wine-like, with more intensity while keeping the floral character.
How is the farm operated?
No pesticides or herbicides. Soil health is maintained through enzyme microorganisms and preservation of endemic flora. The entire operation runs on solar energy.
How long does delivery take?
5 days worldwide via FedEx or DHL. Free shipping over $70.
