The Catuai Variety — Sweet, Balanced, Dependable
Catuai is a prized Arabica variety developed from a cross of Mundo Novo and Caturra. Compact and resilient, it thrives at the high altitudes of Boquete and is loved for a naturally sweet, well-rounded cup with gentle acidity. This is the yellow-fruited selection, Catuaí Amarillo, hand-picked at peak ripeness and finished with the washed process for a clean, defined flavor.
Washed Process — Clean and Defined
In the washed process, the coffee cherry's fruit and mucilage are removed before drying, so what reaches your cup is the pure character of the bean and its terroir. The result is a bright, transparent cup with crisp acidity and a clean finish — the ideal way to show off Catuai's chocolate and hazelnut sweetness.
Four Generations of Boquete Coffee
The Gran Del Val story began in 1880, when French engineer Joseph De Dianous arrived in Panama to work on the French Canal Company. In 1914 his son Gabriel purchased land in Bajo Mono and founded Farm Gladys. Over a century later, the De Dianous-Fernandez family is still here, still farming, and in 1997 built Panama's first ecological coffee processing mill — pioneering sustainable specialty coffee in the region.
Where the Coffee Grows
Grown in the volcanic highlands of Boquete, Chiriquí — where the cool mountain climate, rich volcanic soil from Volcán Barú, and the famous Bajareque mist create the ideal microclimate for slow, even cherry maturation and deep sweetness.
Flavor Profile
Tasting notes: chocolate, honey, hazelnut, and citrus. Smooth and sweet with a medium body, a gentle citrus lift, and a clean, lingering finish. An easy-drinking specialty coffee that is as good on a busy morning as it is brewed slowly on the weekend.
